The French love their outdoor activities and the beautiful countryside has been developed to offer tennis, fishing, excellent canoeing, horseriding and windsurfing in the surrounding towns and villages. There are golf courses in Limoges and Perigueux and even panning for gold in Jumilhac le Grand.
Nearby Lake Ruffiac offers excellent
swimming and canoeing, hiking and biking, and nature walks. Facilities include
a very clean sand beach with a long, fast water slide that only small children
are brave enough for, a restaurant/bar tucked away in the trees, dinghies,
canoes and windsurfers for rent and a T-bar water-skiing course. A lifeguard
is on duty every afternoon from 2pm to supervise a small area of beach cordoned
off for 'littlies'. The lake is a civic amenity and is free.
Brantome offers a melee of rafting, canoeing and boating all summer on its
myriad waterways. Many of the local rivers are managed to offer safe boating
and swimming in the summer.
There are managed lakes offering carp (to 30lb) and trout fishing (with bar, restaurant and swimming) ten minutes away, as well as rivers and streams for the more adventurous fisherman.
