Lake Ruffiac, five minutes away
Lake Ruffiac is only a few minutes drive away and is the heart of a 100 hectare woodland park and one of the largest lakes in the Périgord. There's a proper sandy beach with lifeguards and areas buoyed out both for swimmers and for small children. The lake slopes very gently and is warm in the summer. The surrounding woods contain a pleasant restaurant and bar as well as walks and trails around the lake.There's a wooden jetty for the older kids to leap in off and pedalos and row boats to hire. Further along the lake is a long zip line for the more adventurous to use for surf boarding and water skiing. There's plenty of discrete car parking, Best of all, the lake is a civic amenity and free to all. It's popular in the afternoons after a working day for the French as well as with local holidaymakers all of the time. The lake is an excellent local trip out at any time of the day.

Proper go karting just outside Lubserac about 30 minutes away. 970m of professional circuit with a range of karts and bikes for anyone 5 years old or older. Prices start at 10e. There's a clubhouse with a bar and hot food. But try and have lunch at the village hotel in Lubersac, one of the best and reasonable plat du jours in the area.

Le Parc du Reynou , Le Vigen
Le Parc du Reynou is a very pleasant animal park 45 minutes away heading towards Limoges, it's got all the animals you could want but set in a very rustic setting based around a chateau. The enclosures and compounds for the animals are generally large and natural and the routes around the park are pretty. There's a lot to see but the park can be seen in a relaxed half day. The range of animals is really good, lions and tigers and a rhino, down to stuff the kids will love; rabbits, miniature goats and sheep. This is a nice family trip out.

An activity park about 45 minutes drive away with zip lines and walkways in the trees, five levels of excitement catering from five years old up to very exciting 100m plus lines. There's also a big lake for swimming, woodland trails and a terrace bar to recover in as well as a lake for swimming and fishing. This is a trip highly recommended by previous guests.

Parc Bellevue is a traditional adventure park near Limoges airport, just over an hour from the cottage. There are a range of water slides, pools, inflatables and go karts, as well as woodland walks and some animals for children as well as a cafe serving hot food and drinks. It's a pleasant trip out that small children will thoroughly enjoy.
